Jamie Ayres’ 10 Things About Me

Note from Marisa: When I agreed to have Jamie guest post on my blog, I had no idea she’d write about me! But she’s my friend, and she love to makes lists, so… *cringes and hands over the keyboard*

jayrespic10 Things You Need to Know Before You Query Marisa

By Jamie Ayres

If you know anything about me, you know I LOVE making lists . . . so it’s no surprise I have my characters making them in my debut novel, 18 Things. It’s been a whirlwind of fun doing my 18 Things blog tour over the last six weeks. I had 18 posts planned, but ended up doing 23 because generous souls offered to join in on the fun along the way. But today marks the last day of the tour, and I’m incredibly honored to end it with Marisa. I first met Marisa three years ago at our local RWA chapter. And since she’s turned super agent on me, I thought it’d be fun to make a list about her for your benefit, so pay attention!

10—She has a BIG heart. She even befriended a weirdo who infiltrated her carefully orchestrated personal space at RWA Nationals *cough, cough, okay that may be me I’m talking about*

9—She loves cupcakes, but she can’t be bribed with them! People have tried.

8—Oh, she also LOVES vodka (in moderation), so you’re probably better off querying her after 5pm or on the weekends . . . *wink, wink*

7—If you don’t meet  your deadlines, she will call you out on Twitter, possibly with the hashtag #youliedtome or #imwaiting

6—Hide her from your kids because they will like her more than they like you since she gives them all her spare change (she has a LOT of quarters too!) and tells them the inappropriate things you try to keep from them

5—She has an incredible amount of discipline *except when it comes to those cupcakes and champagne* that allows her to do it all!

4—Reading is her super power! So don’t be surprised when her response to your query comes much quicker than other agents!

3—When she has faith in you, she won’t let you give up. She never failed to take a look at my work “one more time.” She talked me off the ledge a time or two and made me realize I was capable of far more than I believed.

2—She has the most amazingly accurate memory of anyone I’ve ever met, so she won’t forget about you and your manuscript!

1—She’s a sucker for happily ever afters. So make her laugh, make her cry, but give her an ending she’ll be happy enough to dance around the living room for (hey, that was a 2-for-1 deal because now you know she likes to dance too)!

Aren’t you glad Marisa let go of denial and acknowledged the vast hole in her life that was exactly Jamie Ayres sized so I could give you this top secret information today?! Wait a second, what’s this? *opens envelope* A restraining order stating I must stay 50 feet away from Marisa Cleveland at all times? Oh well . . . no worries, I can always Twitter stalk her!

18-things

Jamie Ayres writes young adult paranormal love stories by night and teaches very young adults as a public school teacher by day. When not at home on her laptop or at school, she can often be found at a local book store grabbing random children and reading to them. So far, she has not been arrested for this. She lives in southwest Florida with her prince charming, two children (sometimes three based on how Mr. Ayres is acting), and a basset hound. She spent her youthful summers in Grand Haven, Michigan and this setting provided the inspiration for her debut novel, 18 Things. She really does have grandmothers named Olga and Gay but unlike her heroine, she’s thankfully not named after either one of them. She loves lazy pajama days, the first page of a good book, stupid funny movies, and sharing stories with fantastic people like you. Visit her website at www.jamieayres.com.
